The season of giving is upon us! Gift giving to your loved ones is always exciting, but giving back to your neighbors and local communities is a special kind of gift giving. We’ve put together some unique holiday volunteer and giving opportunities that may just turn into a new tradition to get you in the holiday spirit.
Pet Parades
If you have a cuddly four-legged pet at home who plays well with humans, you can brighten someone’s day at a local nursing home or hospital. An animal visit does a lot more than keep someone company, but may also decrease stress and anxiety, ease loneliness, and increase the levels of the feel-good chemicals serotonin and dopamine in your brain. Many of your local care facilities are typically happy to make these kinds of arrangements. Make sure to reach out to these organizations to check if there are any certifications required for your pet to visit!
Make it a Double!
Are you always finding yourself making too much food for parties/events? Consider that now a good thing! You can always look for a local Meals on Wheels program, shelter, or church that accepts homemade donations. If you’re not one to make more than you should, it's also efficient and easy to make a double batch of your favorite dish, one to serve at home and the other to donate. Since you are already spending time in the kitchen to prepare for a holiday gathering, turn it into an opportunity to give back.
School Supplies & Winter Wear
A toy drive is a great way to donate but if you're looking to donate something differently, you may consider school supplies or winter wear instead. You can donate folders, pencils, backpacks, and paper to your local schools. Many schools also accept winter coats, hats, gloves, and sweatshirts so that faculty members can ensure that none of their students goes without the needed wear for winter. By donating directly to a local school or even a teacher organization, you are helping someone in your own backyard. Oftentimes, children will express their needs to their teachers first.
Take Advantage of Bank & Credit Card Charitable Donations
Check in with your bank or credit card company to identify any charitable donation programs. Many times, you can elect to have small percentages of your holiday purchases donated to your favorite charity. Those “small” percentages will add up to make a big difference, especially entering into a heavy shopping season!
Donate Your Spavia Gift Cards
Our Spavia gift cards are great gifts to give to your local nurses, teachers, police officers, and many others in the working field of giving back every day. A relaxing spa treatment after a busy holiday season is a gift that anyone will be appreciative of. Give us a call to see what special gift card offers we are running, so that we may help you make the most out of your holiday season. As a Spavia member, you received special gift card savings, so stocking up and donating to those that give so much to our community is a win-win!
Just one giveback closer to a better world and happier, healthier stress-free holiday season. Happy Holidays and best wishes in the New Year from the Spavia {LOCATION_TITLE} family!
