Spavia had the amazing opportunity to talk with Andree Austin, Co-Founder of Pure Fiji, an all-natural brand that offers bath and body care. All products feature a balanced blend of exotic oils from the tropical isles of Fiji to help moisturize, nourish, and protect skin and hair.
Allison: How did you get started with Pure Fiji?
Andree: Over 25 years ago we began bottling virgin coconut oil using a new cold process called DME (direct micro expelling) which meant this could be made in rural locations as electricity wasn't required. We were the first in Fiji to make virgin coconut oil available commercially as prior to that it was sold in the markets in an old glass bottle with a banana leaf cork. We were also pioneers in the production of virgin coconut oil and use in cosmetics.
Allison: What are you most proud of as the founder of Pure Fiji?
Andree: The communities we have involved as part of our process and for sharing our island extracts and products globally.
Allison: What is the one thing you’d like our guests to know about Pure Fiji?
Andree: It is handmade in Fiji with a lot of love and passion. Also, by using our products it allows us to continue to grow and give back to our local communities, something we are extremely passionate about, it takes a village!
Allison: Do you have any most memorable moments in giving back to your community?
Andree: After the category 5 cyclone Winston devastated the island we were able to assist with the rebuilding of the school dormitories, provision of laptops, school bags and roofing for the teachers block. We were the first on the ground providing family packs of groceries to families who were left homeless.
Allison: I know you love all your products, but do you have a favorite?
Andree: That is difficult as we do love each of our products but if we had to pick one it would be our soap wrapped in handmade paper as the paper supports a village and it was one of the first products we ever made.
Allison: What would you tell a young female entrepreneur starting up?
Andree: Starting your own business demands selfless devotion, love and attention to detail. Always maintain a positive attitude and an optimistic focus. Keep your eyes on your goal and be original.
